hey there.

The closest I will ever get.

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on November 19, 2009

It’s sad when we have to say it’s the closest we will ever get because we know it will never be the way we want it to be.

I am suffering from the second lead syndrome again. It always almost doesn’t help when the second leads of the korean dramas are so utterly likable and sweet and so poor thing. They just totally make you go ” Awwww~ ” With the exception of Shining Inheritance, I think it’s a norm to love the second lead much more than the first because they are typically uber likable. Okay, maybe not everyone think the same way but you get the drift.

After watching You’re Beautiful for 13 episodes I can officially declare my love for Kang Shinwoo. Yes Jang Geun Seuk is very cute, his character is very endearing but I think I’ve fallen for Shinwoo (he just barely edge Jeremy out though… it’s impossible to resist a dork like Jeremy!). It was just like Boys over Flower, Goo Junpyo is very cool, yes he is very handsome and his character is very outstanding but it has always been Jihoo sunbae (although at the start Lee Minho jumped out). But I’m surprised I feel so more more for Shinwoo than I did for Jihoo (maybe it was because it was my 3rd time watching the same story just with a different cast..).

Today’s episode was really the bomb. The part where he took her to the playground to make up their supposedly “love story” really killed me. Inside out. It was really heartbreaking to watch, and unbearable at some point. It was painful to see his honest confessions be met with her ignorant untrue replies. There he was, pouring his heart out to her but she has no idea. He hinted repeatedly, with those scenes playing in his mind over and over again, but she wasn’t even close. I think the heartbreaking part is where I realised this will be the closest Shinwoo will ever get to his happy ending with Minam. Although she didn’t mean what she said, this will be the only time she will be giving the replies that Shinwoo longed to hear.

And that alone is how sad. It was like it seemed to be the happy ending because she was rattling all the nice things she will say to him if they are really dating but in retrospect it was such a cruel ending because to her it was all just for make-believe sake. You should totally check his eyes out. If you think Hyunjoong has sad eyes, Jung Yong Hwa just upped the bar! It was his sheer look of hopelessness and his effort to smile for her.

Arghhhhhhh.

I love Jang Geun Seuk but I am really just not feeling his character. Yes he is sweet and cute and dorky and handsome but yeah just not really feeling him. But Kang Shinwoo. Totally the bomb. And I can’t believe I said a few weeks ago that I thought his character was boring and typical. I take back my words now.

Heartbreaking, much.

2 December come already!

Exams in less than 2 weeks time so the BATTLE MODE is on.

The battle mode is more or less the same every year, I just really need to keep to it. I think it will help a lot if leeweenam isn’t so super cold. I was just telling my friend that winter wear is fast becoming a need while studying there. But thank God that these few days have been sort of productive and I’m really hoping I can keep to it!

So far everything is great and I’m coping well. But just feeling really drained because of all the frustration (due to the module) which is causing me to not been sleeping well. Since the start of the week I have been having the long and silly dreams every night. I must thank God that at least the dreams aren’t nightmares! But those nonsensical and entertaining dreams are so long that when I wake up I feel like I hadn’t slept at all!

Why so draining? :(

I pray that I will have a good night rest tonight. At least a dreamless one! I don’t want to dream of fyp and fyp profs. But I got a feeling that once the exam week kicks in I will confirm have my semesterly exam-related dreams. The top on the list is always dreaming that I was late for a paper. CONFIRM will come out one. The second one should be dreaming that I sat for the wrong paper, don’t know why always dream about this kind of thing. The last one would be dreaming that my calculator spoilt in the middle of my exam. All can lead to panic attacks can!

I need to relax. HOHO. (and sleep well!)

Anyway, a few albums are rocking my ipod these days! Want to know what/who?

One of the hottest (pun intended) album releases in the kpop scene right now has got to be 2pm’s 1st full length album. Appropriately titled “1:59pm”, the album has been topping charts for very obvious good reasons. I personally like quite a few tracks off the album and I will be sad if the fans don’t support it. I mean it’s lacking cause Jay isn’t there but the other 6 members worked hard for it too. I’m loving the Bossa Nova ver. of 돌아올지도 몰라! It has a very different feel from the original R&B feel. And my personal fave at the moment is 기다리다 지친다. The pyramid dance is how cool! I want to see it in perf!

The next one is John Mayer’s Battle Studies. The title caught my eyes! I think it was the word studies or something lol. Overall the album has a good sound, I’m liking it quite a bit. But not sure if it’s me or what but I’m finding the lyrics very emo and sad. All the talks about heartbreaks, lonely, not belonging to anyone, not lovers nor friends… Hahah oh well. Don’t tell me he is still nursing a heartbreak! In anycase, the album has a mellow sound, I like it!

Okay that’s all for now I should probably go now. Eyes are non-existent already. LOL

Goodnight world and goodnight FYP queen! Hehehe!

Bones is Back!

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on September 20, 2009

A few months without Bones and I’m so glad it’s back already! After Bones I’m looking forward to Big Bang Theory and Grey’s.
Happiness! :)

Dr Saroyan: Oh Dr Brennan, you’re back! Would you care for a hug?

Dr Bones: *frowns immediately* No why!

Hahah I’m loving Dr Brennan once again! :)

HwanES

I totally can understand the 47.1% rating this show received in Korea. A well-written and finely executed show, plus throw in the charming cast and appropriate soundtracks, I’m so sad that I’ve finished watching it already. Lee Seung Gi and Han Hye Joo’s characters really will grow on you. Don’t they look so cute together?

And because of this show, Seung Gi is the new cute boy-next-door. (: Can’t believe they are both of my age.. What am I doing man. Hahaha.

LSK

I never thought mandoo cheeks will look good on guys, but Seungi and Wooyoung had continued to prove me wrong. (:

Season Finale.

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on May 15, 2009

Just caught two season finale tonight and I must say, although Bones is the new love, their Season 4′s finale totally cannot match up to Grey’s. It seemed to me to be a case of good writing vs. not-so-good writing. Grey’s finale really leave me wanting to watch the next season more whereas Bones’s finale totally is not the cliffhanger that they wanted it to be.

Let’s talk about Bones first.

I hate to say this but I thought the ending totally sucks. I know a lot of people didn’t like the alternate reality part, because it is a fraud etc, but I was really okay with it. I mean if I have to endure an alternate reality episode just to see all the cast members reunited on the same set, I seriously wouldn’t mind. I enjoyed one of Friends’s alternate reality episode quite a bit, I think it was because the producer had the right mind not to put it as a season finale.

I mean, all the hype for nothing?! First up, the murder story was not exciting at all. There was no bones, no smart deduction, no science, no crime scene investigation. All of these made Bones nice and fun to watch, but were ironically missing from the season finale. The saving grace? I liked that the characters all had new identities, plus I really enjoyed having all of them back on the set!

Cam and Jared as the new Brennan and Booth? Cute, and it is always nice to see Jared, the bad boy, or in this episode, Jared the murderer. I really do hope to see more of him to season 5. Then Brennan and Booth, happily married blissful couple cum night club owners expecting their first child. Sweet. I think thats what Bones fans wanted, although it is technically not real. I find the rest calling Booth Mr B. really amusing and I must say I have no qualms accepting Booth as a nightclub owner. I mean he sorta fit the description. But Brennan as a nightclub owner is just… weird. I think we are too used to seeing her talk science. Haha.

I think the only cast member I don’t enjoy is Max Keenan, always felt that he was redundant. Caroline was the nightclub lawyer, Clark was some funny dude, apparently a friend of theirs; and I can’t believe Angela’s ex-husband was in it too! As a brother of Clark. Very amusing to see him drop the posh and act all Yo Yo with Booth.

Hodgens was a successful crime novelist, which actually fits his character pretty much, all the conspiracies and theories he could so easily churned out. Then Angela was the nightclub hostess fantastic in Interior Design (very her too), we have Daisy as.. erm Daisy, Sweets as the bartender! Very charming I must say. ” Dude I am a bartender, it’s almost like a psychologist. ” Hahah. Then Fisher is the Chef, very nonsensical and weird, so much for the tallest chicken wing crap.

All the past interns are back! Zack is back as Brennan’s assistant, I am sad he didnt have more screentime! But he was still very Zack-ish. Then I thought Wendell was a bouncer but Booth said he was the doorman. Whatever, he looks good! I think he looked more suited for this role than when he was Brennan’s intern. My favourite seriously has got to be Mr. Vincent Nigel-Murray! I liked all the episodes that had him because I think I have a soft spot for the british accent. Plus I’m sure I am not the only one who finds his nervous rambling of facts very endearing. He was back as the in-house DJ, loving the hat man!

Okay there was basically all the good stuff that I liked. Like what Brennan and Booth had in this alternate reality too. But then the ending had to spoil it all. Seriously, the last 5mins of the show is bad, pure bad. Memory loss seriously? Is this your ideal cliffhanger? Memory loss after an alternate reality is NOT a good combination. It is like double ouch. Except that I could say it was 1.5 ouch considering that I liked the alternate identities. Yet, the ending seriously went to spoil every single thing. I hate thislame cliffhanger ending. I hope they will do better next season. :| I don’t have the urge to catch the next episode, unlike what I feel for Greys.

Which brings me to Greys and I must say.

2 hours season finale and one of the best finale ever. The team at Greys is THIS good. Their season finale is very befitting of their status as one of american most watch tv shows. I loved Greys Season 5 as much as I loved their Season 2. I am having a hard time deciding which one is better. But anyway, an overall look at this season finale you will realized how much they linked it to the second seaosn. Which is by no means old or uncreative but in actual fact, very insightful and good closure I must say.

Greys is one the best drama ever not just because of their famous season finales that leave audience wanting more. It is the way they infuse comedy, tragedy and romance all at the same time and at the same place. This is masterclass writing seriously. Way to go man!

Comedy:

Loved how Bailey looked so thrilled like a kid when Chief showed her the new robots. Loved how Arizona (who is growing on me) cried while trying to challenge the chief. Loved Izzie’s chirpy new cancer pal, Allison. Loved how Mark and Lexie were in this episode, very cute but rubbish bantering. Especially loved Meredith and Christina! And all the hugs, Owen and George, Mark and Derek then finally Mer and Christina. The friendship between these two is amazing and I liked how Meredith said truthfully to Christina that she loves her. Must have been really nice to have a best friend who seriously and honestly love you. Check out Christina’s face during the hug, classic.

Romance:

Loved Meredith and Derek’s wedding! The post it notes, sincere vows and endearing moments. These two have come a long long way. I feel happy just seeing them settling down well. Heh. Then loved Owen and Christina! How she accompanied him to see his mum, how he told her so truthfully that he is a better man because of her and if she lets him, he will be a better for her and with her. ” All you got to do is meet me halfway ” Awww. Owen is a good case of someone who recognizes that they need help and does not push the blame to someone else. They face their demons and they get therapy. Maybe you should get therapy. It might just work. Anyway lastly, loved Izzie and Alex. I have to, their storyline is way too touching.

Tragedy:

Two main ones in this season finale: Izzie’s cancer and George’s accident. Who could have guessed that John Doe is George! My reaction will exactly be like Meredith when I watch this episode if I hadn’t read about this elsewhere. So I guess it is true that Katherine Heigl and T.R Knight are leaving the show. Which will make me very very sad because I loved both of them. It’s wrong to have Season 6 without them, way wrong. My heart really goes out to Alex. His frustrations, his fears, his hopes and his burdens. I think it’s really way too much for him.

So the episode climaxed towards the end, where we see both Izzie and George flat-lining. What will Season 6 Episode 1 holds? Nobody knows except that I am not too hopeful about it. I want to see it NOW but it will be quite a while before the show returns. We see Izzie symbolically taking the elevator in the same purple prom dress she wore to meet Denny in the Season 2 finale. The lift opens and the one person she saw, was a very handsome George in an army suit. The meaning is simple, they are both dead. She was glad to see him and he was glad too at first, then the horror of this truth dawned upon the two beloved residents of Seattle Grace Hospital. Their smiles dropped and Meredith concluded very appropriately: It is the end.

Now …. This is what I call a REAL cliffhanger finale. A really solid, steady and intriguing one.

Sigh, return soon!

Don’t do this.

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on May 9, 2009

I just caught the latest episode of Grey’s and man, it is really all tears and goodness at the same time. I hate it when they do an episode until like that – bittersweet at the very best. It leaves you feeling sad yet feeling good at the same time, ah, all very conflicting. But it was really very emotionally charged this week and I don’t know what to expect for the season finale. :|

The highlight of this week episode is definitely Izzie and Alex. Which until this point, I am quite confident to conclude that Katherine Heigl will most definitely not be around for the next season. Which makes me really sad because I really really like Katherine Heigl and I love Izzie. How can they do this? Don’t do this please! Even if I am pessimistic about this, I still hope secretly that Izzie will be okay. Sigh.

Biggest day of her life. And really kudos to every single cast member on the set for making it right. It felt like everyone was being optimistic about the Izzie’s situation, I mean why won’t they? Izzie is a dear friend and they love her. It seemed like they are avoiding the worst, and they succeeded in making the audience feels the same way too. But the worst came, and my heart goes out to Alex when Meredith found him outside feeling damn hopeless about the whole situation. And not to mention that the tears came when he started crying. I really felt so sad for him.

Then Meredith and Derek decided to gave Izzie their wedding day as a gift, Derek would really love to do something for her. At this point of time I am really still somehow hoping that Derek has a way to operate on that the other frontal lobe to get that stupid tumor. And everyone was just really sweet about it. The way George took Izzie to Alex at the altar was really sweet, although in a sad but conclusive way, and I think it meant quite a bit for the Grizzie fans. I liked that Alex gave George an acknowledging look.

Then came Alex’s wedding vow. The best ever. The way he said it so earnestly, how can anyone not cry listening to it! How he declared today is the day his life begins. And how he is excited about the future with her. Bittersweet because everyone knows Izzie doesn’t have much time for any future. But everyone knows how much Alex meant that. It’s really ahhhhhhh, I don’t know what to say! And so they got married, everyone is happy and everyone is sad at the same time. Everyone is smiling and everyone has tears in her/his eyes. I totally feel the bittersweet feeling. :(

I think what happened with Izzie and Alex really made a lot of them sat back and think about how they should seriously cherish the people around them more. For they want to avoid the time when they regret not loving the person enough, because life deals you a curveball every here and there. A curveball so set on a single trajectory that you feel so helpless and hopeless about it. I think that’s what the rest understood, to not take the people they love for granted. To be the best they can be for them, for you never know when the biggest day of your life could be, until it comes.

First there was Izzie and Alex. Then we see Mark and Lexie. Then I felt a bit sad that George is alone (please don’t kill of George too!). Then Callie and Arizona. Then Owen and Christina (I liked that she removed the fan for his sake, I think this ship is going somewhere!). And finally our favorite couple of all time – Meredith and Derek. Everyone was so contented with who they have, everyone felt so blessed that they can share their lives with another one.

I am sad that Izzie is dying.

And am sad that the finale is soon. Rawrrr.

American Idol Top 5

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on May 3, 2009

I’m sad to say goodbye to Matt G but we all know it was inevitable. Matt G has got to be one of the greatest discovery on American Idol’s Season 8 and you know how much the judges love him judging from the way they heap praises on him more constantly than they did on anyone else. But sadly, reality is what we see it is. Despite many people’s insistence that American Idol is a singing competition (as it is the case with any TALENT competition), looks play an important part. Of course the Top 5 can sing, all of them are good singers, stellar performers, they own the stage everywhere they go! They just keeps getting better, so it will ultimately boils down to who is cuter, more dashing, more swaggerish, more pretty or more handsome.

Don’t get me wrong I love the Top 5, just sad that it was inevitable that Matt got to go. But I agree with Simon that the Jazz week saw 5 good, solid performance from the contestants. I guess having a constructive mentor (Jaime Fox) helps things a little. Next week it’s gonna get interesting as the Rock ‘n’ Roll week knocks in. I love the Top 5 (or Top 4 now) and I really don’t wish to see anyone go. :(

Goodbye Matt, looking forward to your album.

The Big Bang Theory

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on May 1, 2009

It has occurs to me that american tv (at least those that I enjoy) builds their central characters (in other words, heart and soul of the whole show) on the very basis that they are highly intelligent but very dysfunctional human beings. And it’s irritating (on a very personal level) because they are so successful in creating an intriguing main character that will cause you to love the show so much. I’m sure it’s different for all of us, I can like the dysfunctional ASD kind, and you can jolly well like the perky and for a lack of better word, spirited, Izzie type. Although Izzie has very little to be happy about apart from Meredith’s wedding.

As we near the season finale for many shows, I recently picked up a new series to watch and am finding it to be an extremely good sitcom to follow. It has been a while since Friends, and although The big bang theory is nothing like friends (the two are nothing similar except for the episode duration), it is really very funny. Like the laugh out loud type of funny. I used to watch 30 rock but the show didn’t really stick with me after season 1. The big bang theory is more my type. I will so recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good humor or two.

The appealing part of the show is definitely not the physics part. All the interesting physics theories doesn’t really excite me considering my distaste for the general subject itself. But anyway, the attractive part of the show comes from the seemingly unattractive central character – Dr Sheldon Cooper. Sheldon is a genius, like Brennan from Bones, I believe he said he had an IQ of 187 and promptly went on to comment that existing IQ tests are not a correct indicator of his IQ. Sheldon has a very obvious case of AS (Asperger’s Syndrome) as compared to Brennan, he also has OCD, which drives his friends crazy. The AS, combined with OCD and physics theories make Sheldon a very interesting character on TV.

It’s his apparent social awkwardness and his apparent ignorance of that fact that makes him, if I could say, cute in a way. His straight face and the way he boast so matter-of-factly makes him interesting to watch. You should see the way he tells others ” I am never silly ” or how grateful he is to Penny when she got him a unforgettable christmas present. All too endearing in their own ways. I must say Sheldon’s role in The Big Bang Theory is crucial to a large extent for the show’s success. I mean Leonard is funny too, but he is mostly funny because of his reactions towards Sheldon many perculiar actions. And Howard is just plain irritating and wrong, I wish he didn’t appear so often.

I am glad to hear that the show has already been picked up for two more seasons so I’m expecting more goodness from them when they return after the break in perhaps around September. The same way I’m expecting Season 5 of Bones to be good. I can’t wait for the Season finale! Apparently, Brennan and Booth are gonna slipped into another identities as night club owners in order to solve a murder case. And then there is the thing about their relationship which the writers have been teasing the audience for 4 good seasons already. I just wonder how things will turn out.

Like what Dr. Wyatt says, one of the partners is aware of the attraction and struggles with it daily. I don’t understand how can Sweets, being a trained psychologist, not be able to pick up that Booth is the one who is more aware of the attraction. It’s quite clear cut for us audience out there to know that Brennan is quite clueless about her relationship with Booth, considering her inconsideration towards Booth when she talks about the guys she is with. On the other hand, it is easy to see how important Brennan is to Booth, seeing his overprotectiveness over her in many areas and his constant making sure of her well-being, says it all. Cam, Angela, Hodgens, Agent Perrotta and even Booth’s japanese friend, Nakamura could see it. Only she doesn’t. And probably Zack could be still clueless about such things. But nonetheless, when I read that they were be confronting all their feelings for each other before this season ends, I’m keen to see how things turn out. 4 seasons worth of tension and emotions, there must be a lot of things they got to deal with one another..

I love not working. Hahaha. I will so want to talk about Grey’s but since I haven’t watch the latest episode, I shall save my thoughts for later. A little sad though, that I am no longer watching House and CSI NY. Because I cannot be possibly spending all my free time watching good shows, I have decided to eliminate those two from my list of weekly tv shows to watch. I’m not sure if I’m liking what is happening in House anyway.

I love public holidays :D

I love the two doctors.

Posted in Shows by huiyingg on April 19, 2009

You gotta love them honestly. The things they say, the quirkiness, dorkiness and being extremely difficult to be with. But at least Brennan is more likable in the way she is so innocent with her approach towards people. I’m loving the new team btw, since the new team in House never really grow on me. But I’m liking Hodgins, Zack and Angela alot. Especially Zack, super funny.

But I guess its kinda sad that the things they always say reflect so much about themselves. Yet I dig it anyway.

Dr Gregory House vs. Dr Temperance Brennan.

House: Everybody lies.

Brennan: You can always count on the dead people.

How do these two people even live in the society? HAHAH.

Can you watch something off the net without being completely and absolutely irritated by the sheer disbelief that the mac won’t load the videos from any website at all? How is that possible! I don’t like to be halted, but that’s what’s happening right now. Damn..
